Project description:
The purpose of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the system to prevent and combat gender-based violence through the creation of two centres for the assistance of victims of obstetric violence and involuntary sterilisation.
In the area of involuntary sterilization, the main objective is to compensate all victims of sterilization according to the law, if they wish to do so. Women have waited and fought for decades for compensation, faced stigmatisation and deserve to receive just satisfaction for this irreparable interference with their fundamental human rights.
In the area of other forms of obstetric violence, the aim is to enable women to effectively defend themselves against violations of their rights while achieving remedial action and systemic change through legal means.
Overall, the project aims to implement the strategic objectives in the Government's Gender Equality Strategy 2021-2030, by improving the prevention of ill-treatment and violence against women during childbirth and improving the application of free and informed consent to the provision of obstetric health services, and to implement the recommendations of the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
