Project description:
The main objective of the project is to improve the implementation of the rights of women prisoners and released women in the Czech Republic using the principles of the Bangkok Rules (BR).
The project joins the call by the UN and Penal Reform International (PRI) to implement the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders, the Bangkok Rules. The call was issued on the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the BR and calls for addressing the global problem of the increase in women prisoners, addressing its causes and taking measures to fulfil the rights and needs of women offenders in the criminal justice system and during their integration into society.
The project aims to improve the awareness of the professional public about the existence and importance of the BR and, through new educational aids and tools, aims to highlight the possibilities to implement the BR. At the same time, it aims to change the stereotypical public perception of women criminals and thus contribute to ensuring a suitable social climate for the application of BR in practice and the necessary systemic changes.
The project will result in the analysis of the problems of the group of women with criminal convictions and increase the awareness of the professional and lay public on the issue of fulfilling their rights and needs and increase their competence to protect the rights of women with criminal convictions.
