Project description:

The aim of this project is to integrate the Roma minority into society using tools to prevent the loss of municipal housing and to support standard housing.

Preventing housing loss responds to the current problem that debts for rent and services related to the use of council housing are often dealt with too late or not at all. By creating positions for Roma debt counsellors and comprehensive housing support and by working with the counsellors of the project partners, the Brno-sever municipal district will take measures that will lead to reversing the negative trends in the situation of a significant part of the Roma population in the Czech Republic, especially in the area of housing. This will initiate and accelerate positive changes.

Part of the project involves connecting the leadership of the district (the Housing Department, the Social Department, the leadership of the Town Hall, etc.), the project partners, and the Roma minority. The project will thus institutionalize the cooperation and ensure a fast and complete transfer of information. The cooperation of the Roma debt counsellor and housing counsellor will ensure equal access of Roma to decent municipal housing by helping Roma to maintain their existing housing and by alerting the housing commission to the specific situation of Roma people (e.g. larger families) when selecting a candidate.
