Summary:

The aim of the project is to increase the chances of young Roma to receive a quality education. Roma children, pupils and students, will strengthen their competences in key areas of education, receive support in coping with their school duties and spend their free time in a developmental way.

Low education disqualifies Roma people from finding employment and thus from economic independence. They lack awareness of the practical implications of higher education. The accumulation of acute problems reduces parental interest in the successful future of the younger generation. The project will provide support in the transition from pre-school to primary school, during primary school and in the transition to secondary school (SOU) with intensive support in the first, critical year at secondary school, counselling for school choice and employment.

Communication between programme staff, pupil and student, school, parents, social services and professionals is an essential part of the project. The project provides support for regular school attendance of children and students by an escort and establishes a coordinator position. The project also helps school staff to understand the specificities of Roma and social exclusion.
