Project description:
The aim of the project is to offer support to people with disabilities who live or have lived for a long time in institutions in telling their life stories for human rights and to build the competences of the storytellers themselves, as well as the competences of professionals and the general public necessary for sharing, transferring and preserving these stories.
The project will enable people with disabilities to form a research group and work with researchers, scholars and artists to enrich professional and public awareness of the experience of people with disabilities. The outputs from the collaborative autobiographical and archival research will be used in the development of a professional book and articles, as well as in the development of university and lifelong learning courses.
Readers and listeners of easily accessible materials on the human rights aspects of living with disability - a comic strip, a podcast series and a website - will be given the opportunity to learn about life stories that have not yet entered the public debate.
The contribution of the project is to create a space in both professional and public consciousness for seeking better forms of coexistence and finding effective ways of breaking the silence that has surrounded the lives of people with disabilities.
