Launch Conference of the Justice Programme, funded by the Norway grants 2014-2021, was officially launched on 20 March 2019 in the Baroque refectory of the Dominican Monastery in Prague.

Within the programming period of the Norway Grants 2014 -2021 more than 170 million CZK will be allocated to projects arising from the open call and three pre-defined projects. The programme will support systemic measures in areas of penitentiary and post-penitentiary care, higher motivation for change and support of reintegration, higher competences of sentenced persons to imprisonment and new treatment programmes which shall (in long term perspective) reduce substance abuse..

The conference was attended by experts from the programme areas of support as well as representatives of public administration. The importance of support for the Czech Correctional system was emphasized by the Minister of Justice Mr Jan Kněžínek and H. E. Robert Kvile, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Czech Republic. Representatives of the Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Services, the Council of Europe, the Prison Service of the Czech Republic, the Probation and Mediation Service of the Czech Republic as well as representatives of NGOs working in justice sector were also present at the conference.

Participants of the Launch Conference were informed about the content of the Justice Programme which focuses on two programme areas, which are “Correctional Services and Pre-trial Detention” and “Effectiveness and Efficiency of the Judicial System, Strengthening Rule of Law”. Additional programme for the participants of the Conference was also offered, including an interesting presentation focused on the view of the chief chaplain of the Prison Service of the Czech Republic at the work with prisoners.

The open call is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2019. All pre-defined project shall start their implementation during 2019.
