On 24 April 2019, the First Open Call for proposals for bilateral initiatives under the Bilateral Ambitions of the Health Programme was launched.
In view of the fact that one of the aim of this Call is to encourage the establishment of donor partnership projects throughout the Health Programme under the EEA Grants 2014–2021, the Programme Operator provides a more detailed clarification of supported areas given in the Call in relation to the aims of upcoming Open Calls for proposal for projects within the Health Programme.
Bilateral initiatives support covers three thematic areas, which correspond to the areas of support of the Health Programme:
1. Prevention of mental illness in children;
2. Prevention of non-communicable and communicable diseases with a special focus on reduction of social inequalities in health and improved access to health for vulnerable groups from socially excluded localities as well as antimicrobial resistance;
3. Patient empowerment and strengthening the role of patient organizations.
As is already known from the pre-announcement of intended Open Calls for project proposals (see attachment Overview of Programme special concerns), upcoming Calls for project proposals within the Health Programme, support area 2 Prevention of non-communicable and communicable diseases with a special focus on reduction of social inequalities in health and improved access to health for vulnerable groups from socially excluded localities as well as antimicrobial resistance shall be aimed on following two topics:
1. Measures focused on the decrease of the prevalence of communicable and non-communicable diseases of Roma living in socially excluded localities;
2. Measures focused on diagnosis and early detection of dementia.

If you are interested in implementing bilateral initiatives, we recommend taking thematic focus into account when preparing grant applications for bilateral initiatives.
