Objective of the Project

The purpose of the project is to complete the total construction and renovation rehabilitation of the cultural monument of the cemetery church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Horní Maršov, which together with baroque rectory, 400-year old linden tree, a baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk and valuable gravestones and the tomb of Aichelburg forms an important historical monument and the whole landscape unit. The salvation of the church began in 2004. For the period 2014-2016 the final phase of reconstruction is planned, during which the completion of construction work and the restoration of inner parts of the church including floors, built-in joinery and Baroque altarpieces sculptures are envisaged. This will be the completion of the overall renovation of the church and it will be able to open it to the public as a major sight with the added feature of the local and regional cultural and information center for Horní Maršov and eastern part of Krkonoše. The church will again meet both religious and social functions (already now cultural events are organized in the building to the limited extent). Thus the oldest surviving brick structure in Krkonoše (1608) will be rescued and fully restored). Before the start of the reconstruction it was at a critical state of disrepair. The project is conceived from the beginning as a complex work with the aim to preserve the monument and to make it available to the public with a permanent offer of high quality cultural, social, educational and information services. The owner of the monument - the village of Horní Maršov – will thus have the opportunity by means of these new services to fully participate in cultural events within the Krkonoše region and expand its amenities. Therefore the church will become a living organism reflecting the current needs of the municipality and the region rather than a dead exhibition. The project is implemented by the municipality of Horní Maršov in cooperation with o.s. Hradní společnost Aichelburg. The preparation and implementation of reconstruction and restoration works were done with the participation of leading Czech restorers and specialists in the issues of static, moisture and condensation of air, salinity of walls, restoration and preservation of wooden elements and the security ensuring of the object. The rescue and rehabilitation of the church has been significantly financially supported by the Ministry of Culture (program PZAD) and the Hradec Kralove region. Additional funding is provided by the municipality of Horní Maršov from its own funds and also o.s. Hradní společnost Aichelburg has contributed to the project.
