NGO Yagori

The Khamoro World Roma Festival is focused on presenting Romani cultural professionals, primarily through music. The project’s concept includes: Music programme – 1 concert of classical music, 1 of contemporary music (Gypsy Punk), 2 of Gypsy Jazz and 4 of traditional music; - Auxiliary programme – parade by the performers through the centre of Prague, music workshops, “Khamororo” children’s day,”About the past and the present in a different way” - storytelling by Roma elders, expert seminar on topic “Roma music in a social context”, “Small summer school on Roma culture”, creative workshops for young Roma from three different countries; - Media campaign – this serves not only to present the festival’s activities, but also to open up topics concerning the position of the Romani community in society and to raise awareness of cultural diversity and the cultural identities of individuals in the European cultural space. The main idea and mission of the festival is, through culture, to build up high-quality coexistence and communications between the majority population and the Romani minority. Khamoro is a “school” for many young people, non-Romani and Romani, as well as for Romani NNOs contributing to the implementation of the festival who gain experience that then helps them create and realize their own projects. The festival will be designed and produced in partnership with the Yagori Romani Festival from Norway (Oslo), where Khamoro will also perform in September 2015. In addition to the various activities of the Khamoro 2015 festival, there will be other programs implemented: An exhibition about the history of the Spanish Roma, “Vidas Gitanas”; an exhibition of Rosa Taikon’s jewelry; an exhibition called “World without Borders – Romani People and Sport”; a reconstruction of a traditional Romani baptismal ceremony; and a Street Battle Jam dance contest. These are not included in the EEA Grants project and will be financed by other resources.
